Worcester Catholic school opens new fitness suite after funding boost

A NEW fitness suite has been opened at a Worcester school after a sports facility funding boost.

Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College was supported by Active Herefordshire & Worcestershire in the project.

Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire has invested £253,138 through the Opening School Facilities funding from the Department for Education, to support schools to open their sporting facilities for local community and school users outside of the normal school day.

This funding is to enable local schools to open up their facilities for children, young people and the wider community to access more opportunities to be physically active, before school, after school, during weekends, evenings and school holidays.

Jon Williams, the Timberdine Avenue school’s head of PE, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the new building and equipment which will make a significant increase to the wellbeing of staff and students at the college.

“A huge thank you needs to go to Active Herefordshire & Worcestershire partnership whose open schools facilities funding awarded us nearly £50,000 towards the state-of-the-art cardio and weights equipment/machines that we have been fortunate enough to purchase for our new facility.

“The fitness suite will be open to both staff and students during core PE lessons in addition to designated times outside of lessons.

“The staff and students are all very excited about our new facility.”
