Irish music and dancing filled a Coventry school as part of a colourful day of celebrations in honour of its namesake.
St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School held a day of Irish traditions to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.
Children and staff at the school, which is part of the Romero Catholic Academy, were joined by parishioners from St Patrick’s Catholic Church who all enjoyed a performance from Irish musicians and a dance troupe from Celtica Academy Irish Dance School, based in Coventry.
The traditional Irish dish colcannon was on the menu for pupils to enjoy at lunchtime, before the afternoon saw the school open its doors for a family fun afternoon.
Visitors enjoyed a Gaelic football demonstration, Irish poetry and Irish blessing as well as dance and music performances from the children.
Principal Mark McLoughlin said: “Everyone had a fantastic time celebrating St Patrick’s Day – an extremely important event in our school calendar.
“We haven’t held an event of this size in the school for some time due to Covid, so it was wonderful to be able to mark the occasion in this way.
“I would like to thanks all of the staff and visitors for helping to make it such a huge success, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s celebrations.”
